Il y a exactement un demi-siècle, très précisément pendant la semaine du 18 au 21 octobre 1966, se tenait à l’Université Johns Hopkins de Baltimore un colloque organisé par E. Donato, R. Girard, R. Macksey et intitulé « The Languages of Criticism and the Sciences of Man », où étaient invités Barthes, Lacan, Derrida, Hyppolite, Vernant, Todorov, et bien d’autres. Foucault, Deleuze et Lévi-Strauss avaient été invités mais pour des raisons plus ou moins contingentes, n’avaient pas pu venir. Il s’agissait de faire connaître au public américain le « structuralisme ». Le succès de la conférence de Derrida devait en faire le point de départ du « post-structuralisme ». Un jalon aussi de cette longue histoire transatlantique au cours de laquelle les réceptions américaines font exister des « mouvements » typiquement français que la France ne reconnaît pas, mais qui lui reviennent pour la relancer dans de nouvelles directions. Cinquante ans plus tard, nous reviendrons sur certains des vrais enjeux historiques de ce colloque qui, plus que tout autre, nous confronte à l’importance et à l’ambiguïté de l’événement structuraliste pour toute la pensée française contemporaine. Nous nous interrogerons aussi tant sur l’actualité de ce qui s’est joué alors que sur ce qui, aujourd’hui, tient lieu de cet échange transatlantique et/ou serait susceptible de faire évènement de manière comparable.

Argumentaire :
Aujourd’hui, méditer sur la philosophie de Jacques Derrida (Alger 1930 – Paris 2004) revêt un caractère indispensable, notamment ce qui a trait à l’un des concepts fondateurs, à savoir la déconstruction. Il est question de savoir comment Jacques Derrida a engagé la déconstruction comme outil de critique visant la pensée occidentale depuis les fondations (Platon) jusqu’aux constructions métaphysiques modernes et contemporaines (Rousseau, Hegel, Heidegger, Levinas). L’expression « métaphysique de la présence » demeure l’épine dorsale de la philosophie critique de Derrida dont l’objectif est de dévoiler certaines manifestations métaphysiques dans les textes philosophiques et dans les penchants hégémoniques, telles que le logocentrisme et le phonocentrisme, excluant les marges comme éléments nuisibles au bon fonctionnement de la raison occidentale.

Rodolphe Gasché:1938 年ルクセンブルク生まれ。ベルリン自由大学で博士号取得(哲学)。現在、ニューヨーク州立大学バッファロー校比較文学科教授。英語圏におけるデリダ研究の第一人者として知られる。著書に『鏡の裏箔』(1986 年)、『差異の発明』(1994 年)、『極小のものについて』(1999 年)、『形式の理念』(2003 年)、『思索の名誉』(2006 年)、『ヨーロッパ、あるいは無限の責務』(2008 年)、ならびに日本独自編集の『いまだない世界を求めて』(2012 年)などがある。そのポール・ド・マン論、『読むことのワイルドカード』(1998 年)の日本語訳が月曜社より近日刊行予定。

In August 1971, the French philosopher Jacques Derrida placed the ideal model of communication – that communication occurs as the flawless transference of ideas between and among persons – under trial when he delivered an address eminently known as Signature Event Context to the Congrès international des Sociétés de philosophie de langue francaise. From its powerful first sentence inquiring whether “there corresponds to the word communication a unique, univocal concept, a concept that can be rigorously grasped and transmitted: a communicable concept” to classical theories of context and writing and figures such as Condillac, Husserl and Austin, Derrida took an incisive excursus finding its fruition in the insight that the conveyance of meaning is not established in any intrinsic and compulsive necessity of presence. The dynamic vagueness of ‘communication’, in fact, dismantles whatever spatial and temporal scaffolds have been built between and among persons, making communication a letting loose of all meanings.

ハイデガーの1929/30年冬学期講義『形而上学の根本諸概念 世界-有限性-孤独』は、1983年の公刊以来、わけてもその独特な「動物論」によって多くの論者の注目を集めてきた。なかでもこの動物の問題に正面から対決を試みた者として、デリダの名前を挙げないわけにはいかないだろう。『精神について』(1987年)をはじめ、『動物を追う、ゆえに私は(動物で)ある』(2006年)、そしてセミネール『獣と主権者I・II』(2008、2010年)と、晩年に至るまでデリダはハイデガーにおける動物の問題を繰り返し論じ続けた。動物をめぐる形而上学的思考は、いまどこへ向かおうとしているのか。今回のシンポジウムでは、ハイデガー研究とデリダ研究双方の視角からハイデガーの動物論を読み解き、徹底した議論を交わすことにより、その意義と制限を明らかにすることを目指す。

ジャック・デリダの死後、講義録（全43 巻）が続々と刊行されており、今回『獣と主権者II』の日本語訳が出版された。『獣と主権者II』では、主要参考文献はわずか二つ、ダニエル・デフォー『ロビンソン・クルーソー』とハイデガー『形而上学の根本諸概念──孤独、世界、有限性』に限定される。十八世紀の漂流記文学と二十世紀の存在論哲学というこの意外な組み合わせを基調としつつ、獣と主権者の問いは世界の問いへと深化していく。今回のワークショップは、翻訳者による各回の解説、識者によるコメント、デリダ研究者による討論で構成される。未読者も既読者も『獣と主権者II 』の魅力に触れることができる、入門的かつ応用的なワークショップである。

In 1981 Elaine Marks and Isabelle de Courtivron published New French Feminisms, an anthology, which introduced Anglo-American readers to a theoretical and speculative context, including the work of Derrida, that challenged the predominant empirical approach to feminism, which was grounded in the social sciences. Derrida’s approach to sexual difference has indeed been—whilst by no means completely congruent with their work—decisively influential for a whole range of thinkers grappling with gender, amongst whom must be counted the so-called “French feminists,” Cixous, Irigaray and Kristeva, whose work is anthologized by Marks and de Courtivron. Derrida’s influence on scholars thinking about gender has not waned in the years that followed. Derrida has thus affected feminist thinking, and his work has addressed, more so than that of many philosophers, the question of femininity and sexual difference, exploring it in the contexts of his writings on Levinas, Nietzsche, and Heidegger, for example in Geschlecht, “Women in the Beehive” (1987) “Choreographies” (1982) and, perhaps most notably, with the publication of Spurs (1978). In doing so, he has also raised questions regarding feminism itself. At a historically crucial moment for women’s studies, these texts also reflect upon their institutionalization, raising vital issues in relation to the question of margin and center. In “Choreographies”, for instance, Derrida warns about elevating feminism to a new phallogocentrism. This year’s summer school, then, brings together key thinkers able to address the question of deconstruction, gender and difference.

A panel discussion in commemoration of the publication of the fortieth-anniversary edition of Jacques Derrida’s Of Grammatology. In this edition, Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak retranslates the seminal work with greater awareness of Derrida’s legacy. The new edition also includes an Afterword by Professor Spivak that supplements the original Translator’s Preface. Judith Butler has added an introduction and all references have been updated. This new release of Of Grammatology is a milestone in the history of an indispensable work of contemporary critical philosophy.
