Biographical research profile
Kanae Ando, Associate professor, Department of Biological Sciences, School
of Science, Tokyo Metropolitan University.
Dr. Ando received her Ph.D. in Pharmacological Sciences from University
of Tokyo in 2001. After completion of her degree, she worked as a postdoctoral
fellow at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. In 2006, she was appointed as
Assistant Professor and PI in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular
Biology at Thomas Jefferson University, Pennsylvania, USA. She joined to
Department of Neuroscience at Thomas Jefferson University when it was founded
in 2008. In the fall of 2014, Dr. Ando was appointed as Associate Professor
in the Department of Biological Sciences at Tokyo Metropolitan University,
Tokyo, Japan. Her research focuses on molecular mechanisms underlying the
pathogenesis of neurological diseases. Multiple genetic and environmental
factors influence brain development, aging, and vulnerability to disease..
She uses Drosophila as a powerful genetic model system to dissect such
complexity and understand the brain. Tokyo Metropolitan University launched
a Biology English program, a full biology undergraduate program in biology
taught in English in 2015. Dr. Ando serves as the organizer of this program
since 2018.
