Research Contents

Here are the contents of our researches conducted in 2018.

Kimitaka UJI, Professor

Research Topic:
Concrete Engineering, Construction Technology, Durability of Concrete Structure, Repair and Strengthening

【Outline of Research in 2018】
Properties of fluidity and segregation resistance of fresh concrete were studied with the aim to improve the high
quality and durability of concrete structures. Experimental study was conducted in consideration of the factors: distance from vibrator to re-bars and the water/cement ratio. It was revealed from experiments and sampling cores and the distribution of coarse aggregates measured by using AE method that the distance from vibrator to re-bars and the viscosity related with water/cement ratio affect the fluidity of concrete and the homogenization of cover concrete. Also, it was cleared from the pore size distribution of surface of concrete that the quality and durability of steam-cured pre-cast concrete were improved with the sprinkling water under steam cure process. Further, the strengthening mechanism by using CFRP grid and sprayed mortar for deteriorated existing concrete and the calculation method for load carrying capacity were investigated through some experimental tests.

Atsushi UENO, Associate Professor

Research Topic:
Concrete Engineering, Concrete Materials Science

【Outline of Research in 2018】
A study on durability and skid resistance of eco-cement extremely dry concrete were conducted from the stand point of safety of pavement, conservation of natural resources and reducing of environmental impact by concrete structure. Also, deterioration factors and mechanisms on concrete surface at advanced water treatment system, influence of thermal history condition on properties of hardened concrete, effect of acceleration type chemical admixtures on setting and properties of mortar under various thermal condition, evaluation of properties of volcanic materials as concrete making materials, requirements for uniform dispersion of PP short fibers in concrete were examined as the basic properties for various type of concrete.

Kentaro OHNO, Assistant Professor

Research Topic:
Concrete Engineering, Non-destructive Testing of Concrete Structure, Elastic Wave Method

【Outline of Research in 2018】
Some of deteriorations in concrete structures were investigated by using non-destructive testing.
1) Investigation of deterioration process in reinforced concrete slab under fatigue test by acoustic emission and impact elastic wave method
2) Applicability of surface hardness test (equotip) and estimation of damage area in concrete due to fire by impact elastic wave method
3) Stress estimation in prestressed concrete member by ultrasonic
4) Soundness evaluation in concrete dam by using elastic wave method
5) Estimation of adhesion between concrete and reinforcing bar in concrete by ultrasonic wave method
