Quantum Field Theory is now well recognized as a powerful tool not only in Particle Physics but also in Nuclear Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, Solid State Physics and even in Mathematics. In this book some current applications of Quantum Field Theory to those areas of modern physics and mathematics are collected, in order to offer a deeper understanding of known facts and unsolved problems.

The book is a systematic presentation of the modern quantum field theory of non-linear sigma-models.. The content is based on the original papers of the author. Geometric properties and perturbative renormalization of a generic non-linear sigma-model are considered in detail, and illustrated by explicit multi-loop calculations. Some non-perturbative results are derived for the conformally invariant non-linear sigma-models. Supersymmetric extensions are given for most constructions, with emphasis on their relation to complex differential geometry and topology. The main part is devoted to applications of the non-linear sigma-models in conformal field theory, gauge theory, string theory, and general relativity. The book addresses graduate students and researchers in theoretical physics and mathematics.
