(A) From Fukuoka Airport to Kagoshima City
Fukuoka Airport --> Hakata Station --> JR Kagoshima Chuo Station
From Fukuoka Airport to Hakata Station, you will take a subway (about 5 min, 250 JPY).
From Hakata Station to JR Kagoshima Chuo Station, you will take a superexpress "Shin-Kan-Sen"
(about 90 min, 9660 JPY).
You don't need a reserved-seat ticket of superexpress since they have enough non-reserved seats
and two superexpresses for Kagoshima every hour.
The last superexpress would depart from Hakata for Kagoshima at 22:27.
Toyoko Inn Kagoshima-chuo-eki Higashi-guchi is very near to the east exit of JR Kagoshima Chuo Station.

Kagoshima Airport --> JR Kagoshima Chuo Station

From JR Kagoshima Chuo Station, you can get Kagoshima University by walking along the tram railroad in 20 min. Or, you can take a tram in the front of JR Kagoshima Chuo Station, and get off the tram at Toso Station (about 10min, 160 JPY). Finally you can get Kagoshima University, and the building of Faculty of Science.
