We have been running a new project from 2013, “The Study Tours of Civil
Engineering Facilities for International Students under the Asian Human
Resources Fund Program”.
This “Study Tour” aims to broaden our students’ view and draw on their experiences by visiting various important facilities and infrastructures in Japan.
Furthermore, sometimes we try to invite students from other projects in the tours. We believe that would help our international students to establish meaningful connections between them, both for their study and life in Japan.

7th Tour; The Field Trip to the Tokyo Waterfront Construction Sites
Date : December 18, 2014
Location: Toyosu, Koto-ku~ Tsukiji, Chuo-ku, Tokyo
This time, we joined in the guided tour of the infrastructure facilities
hosted by Civil & Environmental Engineering Department of TMU, and
visited the construction sites of the the Metropolitan Expressway and Tsukiji-Ohashi
bridge in the Tokyo waterfront area with some Japanese students.
The waterfront areas along the Tokyo Bay such as ‘Harumi’ and ‘Toyosu’
are created as a compound type urban district, and still actively-developed
for the relocation of ‘Tsukiji Fish Market’, the construction of facilities
to host Tokyo Olympic in 2020 and so on.
The Harumi-line of the expressway is the very important connecting line
that links the coastal area to the inner-city area, expected a role such
as the contribution to smoother transportation and efficient distribution.
‘Tsukiji-ohashi’ bridge is considered as a new landmark of Tokyo. That
is because, it spans the mouth of the Sumida river and the first-ever type
of arched structure in Japan is adopted in it.
The Tokyo waterfront area is expected a further prosperity for the coming Olympic. It was very exciting experience for students to see the construction sites of the social infrastructure in the area that will attracts worldwide attention in near future.
